An evergreen tree or shrub for light, well-drained soil in a sunny sheltered position. The leaves are grey-green with white undersides. The distinctive, edible, crimson and white mid-summer flowers have prominent stamens and are sometimes followed, after a long hot summer, by edible, egg-shaped, red-tinged fruits.
