Camellia

Camellia [44]
Handsome evergreens which can be grown indoors or out, in any good, neutral to acid soil. Outside, a west-facing or sheltered northerly aspect is best, preferably against a wall where some protection from frost and early morning sun can be offered.

C.japonica (Common camellia) [359]
Carries leathery, glossy, mid to dark-green leaves and showy double, mainly pink flowers which can appear from February to May.
C.sasanqua [360]
The dark green leaves of this species are smaller than those of C.japonica. The semi-double flowers, which appear from November to February, are more open thus looking less formal. A more relaxed approach to the sun is tolerated but the plants should not be exposed to sun all day.
