Quercus Ilex (Holm oak)

Although originating in the Mediterranean regions, this evergreen oak has become naturalised in parts of the British Isles, especially where the soils are light, slightly chalky and free-draining. It can tolerate full sun or shade and the holly-like, mid-green foliage is not affected by salt-laden coastal winds. Responds to trimming for shaping and thus can be used for screening as well as more formal applications.
